As an alumnus of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s high school and Michigan State University baseball programs, I possess over a decade of competitive baseball knowledge and skills, gained through my playing and coaching experience in infield and hitting. I am deeply dedicated and passionate about the game of baseball and am eager to collaborate with you.

My High school years I was All-City my Junior and Senior year. My Junior College years I was 1st team All-Conference, All-Regional and 1st team All All-Star in the MCCAA Junior college All-star game. I transferred to Lane College becoming 1st team all conference one year 2nd team another year my last year I was Player of The Year, MVP of the tournament and All Tournament team. I also was honored to represent my school at the HBCU All-Star Game and Start

With over 3,000 hours of experience, I blend technical instruction with motivational support to build skill and confidence. I’m a lifelong athlete, fitness enthusiast, and proud Shelby Township native, working in Finance and running e-commerce and motivational businesses. My playing career lasted over 20 years that included playing Juniors, NCAA, and Semi-Pro. I am currently the head coach of the Liggett varsity high school women hockey team. I have had other coaching experiences such as being the assistant coach of the university of Michigan women’s club program, as well as being one of the assistant coaches for Bloomfield girls high school hockey. I have had numerous experiences helping run clinics and camps as an instructor and counselor.

I am currently enrolled in the PGA Golf Management Program in Michigan and working toward my Class A PGA Professional status. As a Level 1 associate, I am committed to developing my knowledge of the game while helping others improve their skills and enjoyment of golf. My coaching philosophy centers on building strong fundamentals, making the game approachable for players of all levels, and creating a positive, enjoyable learning environment. Whether working with beginners just starting out or experienced players refining their technique, I focus on simple, effective strategies that lead to long-term improvement. With a passion for both teaching and playing, I aim to share the values of the game—discipline, patience, and sportsmanship—while helping students reach their personal goals on the course.

I'm Dr. Shuming Chen, a former university professor with over a decade of teaching experience and a Ph.D. in Vehicle Engineering. I have helped students from undergraduate to graduate level understand difficult concepts, prepare for exams, complete research projects, and improve academic writing. Students appreciate my clear explanations, patience, and ability to simplify challenging topics. My goal is to make learning enjoyable while helping you achieve measurable academic success.

I am a Detroit Symphony Orchestra violinist and an experienced teacher for serious intermediate, advanced, and adult violinists. My strength is helping students solve specific technical and musical problems and build stronger performance ability. Lessons are goal-driven and based on real professional experience: we identify the target, diagnose the obstacles, and build a clear training strategy for auditions, competitions, exams, orchestral excerpts, and professional orchestra preparation.

"Hongyi first took time to carefully understand my background & goals.  Then he evaluated my playing and came up with a multi-pronged approach to improve my technique and skills.  This includes a slow vibrato exercise, a method to improve my relaxation during fast passages, detailed double stops work, a method to broaden my attention while playing in orchestra, and challenging sight-reading practice.  He also helped me understand the intricacies of bow evaluation so that when I do buy a new bow, I’ll be making an informed decision.  My vibrato has become much more controlled, allowing me to play a key passage much more beautifully.  I’m beginning to embody relaxation in my playing, which has improved my sound quality & significantly increased my stamina during fast passages.  And I’m starting to adopt key skills needed for successful orchestral playing.  Hongyi’s analogies and stories during lessons have helped difficult concepts sink in so that my practice is effective.  He shares his extensive real-world experience which helps me understand what is required and shift previously ingrained habits.

I am a graduate of Bennington College where I received my BA in Literature, Creative Writing, and French. Currently, I am in pursuit of a MA from University of Michigan, studying poetry at the Helen Zell Writers' Program. A graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy, reading and writing has always been my passion and my chosen profession.
